Officials say the Red Cross is trying to support the family that's now homeless during the holiday season. — Rowan County deputies arrested a woman after they say she set a home on fire that belonged to people she didn’t know. She’s also accused of stealing the couple’s dog, deputies said.

A pair of Rhode Island boys, Mario Comella and Anthony Lombardi, heard the fire alarms as they rode their bikes past their friend’s house. Tequila Quashea Atkins, 37, of Ocala was arrested Saturday in lieu of a $50,000 bond on two felony charges of animal torture. The dog, who was seen whimpering and trying to flee while the gasoline burned, survived after a witness intervened and washed the gasoline off the dog and another who wasn’t set on fire. While the home was severely damaged the staff believes this was a success because everyone human or animal walked away safely.
